Guardian Home Information

At Sunny Creek Labs, we’re committed to giving our breeding dogs the best possible life. That’s why we limit how many dogs we keep in our home. We've already had success placing our dogs in a Guardian Homes, and are excited to offer this opportunity again.

This program allows us to expand our breeding program while ensuring each dog lives as a beloved family member. As a Guardian Home, you’ll receive a high-quality English Lab at no cost and become its forever family, while Sunny Creek Labs retains breeding rights.

We cover all breeding-related expenses and veterinary care related to our program. Guardian families are responsible for regular pet costs like food, toys, routine vet visits, and training.

It’s a win-win: you receive a beautiful Lab without a purchase fee, and we know our breeding dogs are loved and well cared for in their everyday lives.

To qualify, Guardian Families must:

  • Live within 60 minutes of Greenville, OH 45331

  • Be open to home visits and provide references

  • Have a safe, secure fenced yard

  • Provide basic training (house, leash, crate, obedience)

  • Follow our nutritional recommendations

  • Use our approved veterinarians (located in Versailles and Greenville)

  • Not plan to move within the next 2–5 years

  • Support vet visits, health testing, breeding, and (for females) whelping

For Female Dogs:
Breeding begins once she reaches maturity and typically ends after four litters, though this may vary. Once health testing is complete, the female will come to us for breeding (a few days) and return home during pregnancy (about 63 days total). Around day 50 of pregnancy, she returns to us to deliver and raise her puppies. After the puppies are weaned (around 8 weeks old), she goes back to you.

After her breeding career is complete, we will cover the cost of spaying and transfer full ownership to you.

Female Guardians must be comfortable managing heat cycles and keeping the dog safe from unplanned breeding. If needed, we’re happy to temporarily care for the dog during a heat cycle or until a breeding has taken place.

For Male Dogs:
Male Guardians have longer contracts. Males are bred as needed and are usually away from home for a few days or up to a week at a time. Guardians must ensure males are kept away from intact females and are available for occasional breeding. The male dog will not be permitted to be boarded, he will come back to us during that time.

If you meet the qualifications and are ready to join our Guardian Home Program, please complete the application linked below. In exchange for providing a safe, loving home and partnering with us during your dog’s breeding years, you’ll receive a top-quality English Lab without paying the purchase price.

Current Dogs Available for Guardian Homes

  • Harlow

Harlow is a three years old, born 7/25/22, and is very sweet. She gets along with everyone and dog she meets. She likes to be included in everything you’re doing. She’s happy to play fetch for as long as you’re willing to throw the ball or is content with laying down chewing her benebone.

Harlow is crate trained, house broke (she’ll need to learn which door to go to), walks well on a leash, and does great in the car.

She is expected to have two more litters before she retires. We’re planning a litter in Summer 2026, and one in 2027.

**She does get possessive of stuffies and will need to be watched with them.

  • Sully

Sully turned 1 in February and he’s our main stud dog for Sunny Creek.

He’s been through an advanced puppy training class and walks beautifully on a leash. He’s a happy playful guy who is a little goofy.

Sully is crate trained, house broke, knows basic commands, and rides well in the car.

He does occasionally get shy, so we would like to place him in a home with another dog that he can play with.
